Meet Musician Ryan Lynch! DSC is excited to welcome him to the stage
From Ryan:
”It’s a privilege to say I’ve had so many wonderful opportunities to make music with so many talented people. From the first band I formed when I was 12, Beside the Point. To the ensembles I joined in undergrad at U of M, the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club and the Friars. To the musicians I collaborate with now, Stephen Rowley, Scott Freeland, Harry Samoy, and Raziel Castaneda (to name a few). Music has been a part of my life always.
You can find me performing all across the state of Michigan. I’ve played festivals like Walk the Beat in Grand Haven (which I did win in 2022 humblebrag sorry), venues like North Star Lounge in Ann Arbor (which I did sell out this year, again sorry for the flex), or coffee shops and bars anywhere from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. “

Billy J has been on the music scene since his debut release “One Step Closer” in 2005, which became one of the fastest selling independently released CD’s to date overseas and abroad. Billy J has become a household name overseas and has gained a lot of fans along this journey. He credits several R&B singers that paved the way for him like: Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Donnie Hathaway, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and so many more. He wanted to prove that R&B music isn’t dead; especially in Motown. With that he started MTJ Productions.
In late 2019, Billy J started working on his latest music. The pandemic came in swiftly and derailed all recording plans. His writing process showed so much growth and maturity. He worked with some amazing writers and features on this project such as: Grammy award winning songwriter Antea Birchett who has written songs for Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, just to name a couple. He also worked with: Sam Watson, Katrina Carson Patrick Cooks, Craig Te, Jeff Dean, Jai Fears and Gucci Rie and he was excited for everyone to hear the finished product. In early 2020 he shot the video for the upcoming single “Love Tonight” Ft Jai Fears. Finally, after two and half long years his latest project ‘Black Tie Affair’ was released in July of 2022.

Join us for an evening of house music with DJ Scandalous
The O’Jays “I Love Music” pretty much sums up his deep-rooted affection for music. Growing up in Chicago, Chris was exposed to all sorts of music but his fondest memories of foot thumping, fist pounding, booty shaking rhythm began in Funk. The stanky funk of George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic was the catalyst that inspired his exploration of ALL genres of music. Hanging with his father, who was a record distributor in the 70’s and 80s; the heart of Disco, funk, rap and rock, is what really tantalized his musical taste buds and invoked his passion for wax. House music embodied all of those genres. Chris took that passion to college in 1987 and spent many years perfecting the art of mixing and blending with the help from his mentor, DJ Fink. You will hear his mixing style influenced from Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Lil Louis, Farley Jackmaster Funk, DJ Fink, Joe Barrett, Kenny Mahone, DJ Clay, Daniell Spencer, Terry James and Brian Reeves.

Chris Canas “Detroit’s Prince Of The Blues” was born in July in the 1980's to Angela and Lenard. He has grown with music in his life whether it be his Mom singing to him or taking him to see Ray Charles at Hart Plaza or his Dad singing and dancing him to sleep as a kid. Music is part of his very soul and is the main reason he has grown into such a musical person today. His first true instrument was discovered when he chose a Coronet over all other instruments because he was too shy to speak up and claim the Saxophone in 5th grade. But he loved it nonetheless and treated it as if the sounds he could make were doubling as a musical release as well as a therapeutic one. The Blues had taken him and it wasn't going to ever let him go. Chris' Uncle Jamerson rolled up in a Cherry Red T-Top Camaro while BB King’s "Thrill Is Gone'' filled the air with all his speaker systems might, and an innocent shy boy immediately began his transition into a Blues Man.
Chris eventually discovered a rickety old dusty P-Bass in his grandmother's garage which only had 2 strings on it. Chris took it upon himself to clean it up real good so he could play it. Only problem was he didn't yet know how to fix a Bass so he just learned on those 2 rickety rusted strings. His parents eventually realized that music was his passion and got it completely fixed so he could finally learn how to play the full Bass. Eventually even that wasn't enough and Chris picked up Piano, Sax, Drums, Harmonica, and eventually found his true love.....The Guitar.
Chris went on to win the Ann Arbor Talent Show performing 2 of his songs off of the SOB album "Unforgiven'' which he still plays to this day and "The Blues" which was inspired by BB King's "A Blues Boys Tune". He landed a gig with Ejuana "Fire" Taylor and went on the road with her and her band for a bit while honing his skills at the Tap Room jam session in Ypsilanti which is still running every Thursday to this day. Chris eventually hooked up with Thornetta Davis and was taken under her wing at the age of 18 and opened his eyes up to the rich Detroit Music scene as well as exposed him to countless Pro musicians. in 2003 Chris formed the, dare I say it one last time, "Chris Canas Hyper Dynamic Blues Revolution'' which was later shortened to "The Chris Canas Blues Revolution" which shortened again to "The C2BR" and finally, finally ended with the "Chris Canas Band". Chris has since released a total of 6 albums with his latest official album being "She's Breaking Me" reaching heights he never thought possible

We are excited to have Pinter Whitnick take the DSC Stage!
Forming in a small studio apartment in Detroit, Pinter Whitnick spent 2020 distilling their favorite songs down into duo-sized versions. While Kayleigh played bass and sang, Alex added guitar, keys, vocals, and foot percussion. The result was an 80s/90s duo with a full-band sound. Since then, Pinter Whitnick has taken their unique style to venues across the Mitten, turning back the clock and taking listeners on a sonic journey.

Join DSC as we welcome Luke Woltanski to our stage!
Having graduated in 2020 with his degree from Hillsdale College in Biology and Genomic Engineering, Luke decided to use the opportunities that the chaos of COVID afforded him to attempt the persuit of music full time. It would seem he made the right decision. Now scheduled nearly a year in advance Luke plays 5-6 shows a week on average totaling over 230 shows a year. In 2023 Luke released his fifth studio album “Mockingbird.” This album was recorded over the course of two years, and the songs tell the story of Luke’s first two years as a full time musician. Luke can be heard playing at any number of your favorite venues in the greater Traverse City and Leelanau areas. He plays many other great places across Michigan and even in Georgia, where Luke will occasionally find a retreat to rest and write.
