Jason Reed Solo Exhibition

Jason Reed is a native of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He's lived in Detroit since 1996 and is a graphic designer by trade. He spent the first 18 years of his life surrounded by woodlands. “Nearly everyone in the county had a job doing something with wood; logging, driving a semi, working at the flooring mill. Seeing these huge semi trucks decorated with sweet graphics, covered in mud, and loaded with wood- that was my earliest influence.”

He started painting in 2013 and had his first solo exhibit later that year, aptly titled “Trux."

Jason's paintings are primarily done on raw wood panels, often leaving the grain as an important part of the work. “Working on wood lets the natural beauty, texture and grain become a significant element. These pieces are really a collaboration of sorts with mother nature.”

Using a combination of mediums (stain, acrylic paint, marker and varnish, among others), Jason assembles his pieces mostly unplanned. “The works all have an entry and exit- part of a bigger picture. As I contemplate my next move and how it relates to what is beyond the edges of my canvas, I create what I can see before me and leave the viewer to figure out the rest."
